Against the backdrop of the “Opening of Higher Education” initiative and within the framework of the Lower Saxony state strategy “Media Competence in Lower Saxony – Milestones toward the Goal”, ELAN e.V. joined forces with five (district) adult education centers (Volkshochschulen) in the northwest of Lower Saxony to launch the collaborative project “eLearning and Lifelong Learning” (eL4).
The aim of the project is to strengthen and expand media and information literacy as key competencies, and to promote the use of digital media and teaching/learning technologies in adult education and professional development institutions across Lower Saxony. The goal is to support, improve and intensify the integration of digital learning technologies in these educational environments.
After two workshops and a presentation in October and November 2013 — which offered additional interested institutions in Lower Saxony insights into the activities of the eL4 project — the first project phase was successfully completed at the end of 2013. Overall, the use of Stud.IP to enrich and complement in-person sessions was piloted across 14 VHS courses; more than 100 instructors and staff members at the participating adult education centers were trained in how to use and apply digital teaching and learning technologies. In the second project phase, additional adult and continuing-education institutions in Lower Saxony will be included and supported in implementing digital media in their teaching.
The eL4 project is funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK).
Project duration: Phase 1: 01.07.2012 – 31.12.2013; Phase 2: 01.01.2014 – 31.12.2014; Phase 3: 01.01.2015 – 31.12.2015.
